FIRST TRIP AROUND THE WORLD
Magellan and Elcano (1519 - 1522)
Five hundred years ago, Ferdinand Magellan and more than 260 men, set sail on five ships, with one single goal: find a sea passage to the east spice islands, sailing west.
From Spain, the fleet sailed along the northern Africa west coast heading towards Brazil and then going south, hugging the coast into the unknown.
Over more than a year and a few incidents later, Magellan finally found a gateway (the strait that would come to bear his name) to a new ocean, which he named "Pacifico".
Weak, ill, and unprepared, it took them another four months, starvation and disease, to finally reach East, becoming the first Europeans to arrive in Asia coming from the unknown side of the world, and proving, de facto, that the Earth was round.

Under the ongoing celebrations of the 500 years of this historic event, I intend to ride the same equivalent route, by land, on my Yamaha Ténéré 700, and in line with the celebrations, I aim to return on the 6th of September 2022, 500 years after the ship Victoria.
